    Delegation of Authority

     

    As Staff Developer, you are delegated the administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability necessary for carrying out your assigned duties. No direct supervisory functions. This job description does not list all the duties of the job. You may be asked by the supervisors or managers to perform other duties. You will be evaluated in part based upon your performance of the tasks listed in this job description at anytime. This job description is not a contract for employment, and either you or the employer may terminate employment at any time, for any reason.

     

    Working Conditions

    Works in office areas as well as throughout the facility. Moves intermittently during working hours. Is subject to frequent interruptions. Works beyond normal working hours, weekend and holidays and on other shifts/positions as necessary. Is subject to call back during emergency conditions (e.g. severe weather, evacuation, post-disaster, etc.). Attends and participates in continuing educational programs. Is subject to injury from falls, burns from equipment’s, odors, etc., throughout the workday, as well as to reactions from dust, disinfectants, tobacco smoke, and other air contaminants. Is subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including TB and AIDS and Hepatitis B viruses. Communicates with nursing personnel, and other department personnel. Is subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members, personnel, visitor, etc. Is involve with residents, family members, personnel, visitors, government agencies and personnel, etc., under all conditions and circumstances. May be subject to the handling of and exposure to hazardous chemicals.

    Job Requirements

    • Plan, develop, direct, evaluate, and coordinate educational and on-the-job training programs.
    • Incorporate commercially produced instruction material and training aids into existing in-service programs as deemed necessary.
    • Provide leadership in formulating the goals and objectives of the in-service educational programs of this facility.
    • Develop, evaluate, and control the quality of in-service educational programs in accordance with established policies and procedures.
    • Secure, develop, and maintain record, reports, instructional manuals, reference materials, etc., pertinent to in-service educational programs.
    • Assume the authority, responsibility, and accountability of directing the in-service educational programs.
    • Work with the facility’s consultants as necessary and implement recommended changes as required.
    • Assure that in-service training classrooms or areas are properly prepared before training classes begin.
    • Develop and implement a quality assurance program for in-service training.
    • Develop, direct and schedule refresher training, as necessary, for assigned staff and licensed professional personnel.
    • Develop and participate in the planning, conducting, and scheduling of orientation programs that orient newly hired personnel to their position, the facility’s policies and procedure, resident rights and responsibilities, etc.
    • Assure that all personnel attend and participate in annual facility in-service training programs (e.g., OSHA, TB, HIPAA, Abuse Prevention, Safety, Infection Control, Fire and Disaster Preparedness, etc.)
    • Assure that copies of lesson plans, instructor’s qualifications, etc., are filed in accordance with the facility’s policies and procedures.
    • Conduct regular or special in-service training sessions for staff to ensure they remain current on new procedures, changes in policies, etc.
    • Coordinate in-service activities and programs with all departments in accordance with established policies and procedures.
    • Assure that individual employee training records are maintained and filed in the employee’s personnel record.
    • Schedule in-service training programs according to the needs of each department.
    • Post notices of in-service training classes in accordance with the facility’s policies and procedures.
    • Provide regular resident status updates to appropriate personnel.

    Education and Experience

    Must possess a Nursing Degree (RN) from an accredited college or university.

    Must possess a current, unencumbered, active license to practice as a nurse.

    Must have, as a minimum, two(2) years experience in a nursing care facility.

    Must possess skills in leadership and communication.

    Must possess creativity, integrity, and initiative.

    Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.

    Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age-related needs of the resident served.

    Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public.

    Must be knowledgeable of nursing and medical practices and procedures, as well as laws, regulations, and guidelines that pertain to nursing care facilities.

    Must possess the ability to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret the programs, goals, objectives, policies and procedures, etc., that are necessary for providing quality care.

    Must not pose a direct threat to the health of safety of other individuals in the workplace.

     

    Specific Requirements

    Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language and posses good communication skills.

    Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.

    Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide training appropriate to the age-related needs of the residents served.

    Must be a supportive team member, contribute to and be an example of teamwork and team concept.

    Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public.

    Must possess leadership and supervisory ability and the willingness to work harmoniously with other personnel.

    Must be willing to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing training practices.

    Must possess the ability to plan and develop new programs.

    Must have patience, tact, a cheerful disposition and enthusiasm as well as the willingness to handle difficult residents and staff.

    Must be able to relate information concerning a resident’s condition.

    Must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety to other individuals in the workplace.
